Star Wars Battlefront III reportedly hasn’t even started development yet

Star Wars Battlefront II

Star Wars Battlefront III hasn’t started development yet, according to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, suggesting fans shouldn’t expect the reported sequel to arrive any time soon.

Writing on Bluesky yesterday, Schreier drew a clear distinction between the progress of a new Battlefront and Respawn’s third Star Wars Jedi game.

“Jedi 3 is far in development; Battlefront 3 hasn’t even started yet,” he said.

That leaves a considerable gap between the prospect of another Battlefront and a game players can actually get their hands on. Schreier didn’t give a development start date or release window, so there’s no firm timetable to work backwards from.

Star Wars Jedi 3 could be revealed soon

In a separate reply on Bluesky, Schreier addressed a reader’s question about the next Star Wars Jedi game, saying it remains on the way and should receive an official announcement soon.

He didn’t specify when that announcement might happen, or provide a title or release date. “Soon” leaves plenty of room for interpretation, particularly when everyone is already watching the calendar for the next big showcase.

Battlefront fans still have a wait ahead

Schreier’s replies came amid discussion of his reporting on EA’s decision to close BioWare and cancel its next Mass Effect game. That reporting described a new Battlefront as the publisher’s preferred investment, despite development having yet to begin.

For anyone hoping the renewed Battlefront reports mean a sequel is already quietly taking shape, his update is a reality check.

There may be plans for another trip to the front lines, but plans and a playable game are very different things. For now, keep expectations – and those imaginary launch dates – in check.
